Logica CMG is expanding its service centre in Bridgend,
South Wales to support its offshore outsourcing business. The move
will allow user companies to choose a mix of offshore and UK-based
outsourcing.
Andrew De Cleyn, business development director at Logica CMG, said
the enhanced centre would give UK companies the option of using a
hybrid of UK-based and offshore outsourcing services. "We are
offering the security of service from the UK but also the ability
to use offshore centres to lower costs," he said.
The IT services company is recruiting 750 new staff as part of the
service centre expansion. These will include application support
staff, service response managers, software testing professionals
and helpdesk analysts to provide IT and business process
outsourcing services.
Staff at the centre will also provide support and development work
in partnership with overseas outsourcing centres such as India and
the Czech Republic.
Logica's service centres are linked using call routing technology
and access customer data and IT systems using fault and report
tracking applications.
Offshore outsourcing is now a mainstream part of IT strategy,
having grown by 40% in 2003. India is the dominant provider of
services, although China is growing in popularity as an outsourcing
destination.
Over the past few years many IT service providers and software
suppliers have expanded their presence in offshore destinations
such as India.
Analyst firm Gartner has advised companies to consider the option
of outsourcing to one of the Eastern European countries - such as
the Czech Republic and Hungary - that will become members of the EU
in May.
