The IT recruitment market showed signs of a steady recovery
at the end of last year, with a 4% rise in advertised IT vacancies,
according to the latest CWJobs Quarterly IT Skills
Index.
Despite December traditionally being a slow month for recruitment,
the number of permanent IT vacancies rose by 4% between October and
December 2003, and IT contract jobs rose by 1%, according to the
CWJobs Quarterly IT Skills Index.
The regions that saw the fastest growth in demand for permanent IT
staff were outer London (14%), the West Midlands (10%) and inner
London (9%). Demand was greatest for staff with experience in SQL,
Unix and C++ systems.
The CWJobs Quarterly IT Skills Index is based on information taken
from all jobs advertised in the leading UK print publications and
online recruitment sites.
