UK airports authority BAA is to spend £26m over the next
three years to create a server-based IT platform, in an attempt to
improve security, cut maintenance costs and reduce dependencies on
certain software products.
The move, which will see BAA's 9,000 staff accessing all their
software via web browsers on thin clients, will allow flexible
working and cut costs by enabling software rationalisation and
reducing upgrade costs, BAA said
Moving to portal-based document storage will improve information
exchange and co-ordination, as search criteria will be tailored to
individual needs, the company said.
BAA signed a five-year, £45m desktop outsourcing contract with
Computacenter last March. Citrix software is being used as
middleware.
