Brakes, the food service supplier, hopes to cut costs and
boost efficiency after signing a 10-year, £100m deal to outsource
all of its IT operations to IT services firm Atos Origin. The contract, which began on 1 July, will see Atos Origin
integrate all the business systems from each company in the Brakes
Group to SAP, replacing numerous legacy systems.
Brakes hoped this would improve business efficiency by
rationalising a previously diverse infrastructure, a result of the
company's growth following the acquisition of a number of
companies.
Phil Goodwin, IS director at Brakes Group, said the deal will be
key to the success of the business.
“Our research into outsourcing demonstrated that there would be
a number of benefits to Brakes, specifically the acceleration of
our integration programme, enhancing our relationships with our
customers and reducing our IT cost base,” he said.
No jobs have been lost, but 80 IT staff will transfer to Atos
Origin, which is developing a new site close to Brakes'
headquarters in Ashford, Kent, to house the team.
