UK airport authority BAA expects to save £8m over the
next five years by outsourcing the management of its desktop
infrastructure to IT services provider Computacenter.
The contract, which is worth £45m over the five-year period,
includes the provision of hardware, software licences and IT
services for around 10,000 desktops, and will come into effect on 1
April.
Computacenter will become responsible for a range of desktop
services including maintenance, asset disposal, installations,
moves and changes, replacing agreements that BAA had with a number
of different suppliers.
Richard Rundle, BAA's group IT director, said, "We are
constantly striving to find more cost-effective ways to manage our
growing IT infrastructure.
"By consolidating our desktop requirements into one end-to-end
services contract, we expect to generate savings of around £1.6m
per year, which represents a significant return on our
investment.”
