The IT department of a subsidiary of Abbey National has
been vindicated after an investigation into alleged fraud over IT
contracts.
It was claimed that First National staff took kick-backs in return
for placing orders with a major IT supplier. However, the
allegations, made by a former member of First National's IT
department, were unfounded and not based on any evidence, an
investigation by Abbey National Group found.
A spokesman for Abbey National said it had passed on the findings
of its investigation to the Metropolitan Police who now regarded
the matter as closed.
The allegations, made two years ago, were first examined by First
National, which also found no evidence to support them.
