Cutting-edge artists get a quick fix

Wednesday 26 February 2003 02:00
The Baltic Arts Centre in Gateshead has gone live with a new network that will deliver up to 1gbps to the desktop to support artists in residence working in graphic media. It will also provide 100mbps to support centre administration staff.

The centre's attempts to develop cutting-edge artistic media meant it was essential that the network would support the high-bandwidth requirements of its digital audio recording studio, as well as its web lab, which enables web TV content to be streamed to the internet.

The centre sought advice from the University of Sunderland before putting together a network design to go out to tender. Telindus was engaged to install Extreme Networks equipment in a multiple redundant link topology, giving 550 100mbps unshielded twisted-pair points and 1gbps fibre points.
