Twenty more areas in Europe, Asia and Latin America will receive
access to services through AT&T's Global Network this year
under an accelerated deployment plan unveiled by the
telecommunications company.
In its announcement, AT&T said it is adding access to the
global network faster than previously planned from another 20
telecommunications nodes to meet customer demand.
Those 20 are in addition to 102 nodes already scheduled to be added
to the company's global network this year.
Joyce Van Duzer, an AT&T spokeswoman, said the 20 cities were
originally expected to be added to the network over several years.
The expansion of the network will allow wider telecommunications
access by corporate users from more places around the globe, she
said. AT&T is spending $300m (£192m) to expand its network.
AT&T added that it plans to deploy new worldwide end-to-end
private line networking capabilities by next April, while noting
that its enhanced VPN services, announced last January, will be
available to customers globally by the fourth quarter of this year.
