Enterprise software supplier J D Edwards unveiled plans to port its
CRM products to Linux, announced the delivery of modular ERP
software and revealed plans to extend its hardware arrangement with
IBM at its user-group forum in Denver last week writes Antony
Adshead.
The company said version 5 of its ERP suite could be implemented by
installing modules as required.
Simon Bragg, an analyst at ARC Consulting, said, "JD Edwards is
coming into line with an established trend. The mood has changed
from, 'let's have a a big five-year ERP implementation with return
on investment in five years,' to 'let's chunk it, make incremental
improvements and get ROI in two years'."
JD Edwards' CRM software will be offered in collaboration with IBM
and use the DB2 database and Websphere application server running
on Linux on an IBM eServer xSeries system. This bundling of the
Linux-ported CRM suite and IBM products will be targeted mostly at
the financial services sector.
The company also introduced software modules aimed at
manufacturing, distribution and real estate.
