Cable and Wireless (C&W) will offer managed LAN and WAN
services over a single IP platform to customers in its major
markets.
The services, which will be branded "Cable & Wireless IP
convergence solutions", will be jointly developed with Cisco
Systems who has signed a four-year deal with the company.
Financial terms of the deal were not released.
The LAN/WAN managed services will allow customers to converge data
and voice networks over a single IP infrastructure, saving
companies the time and expense of building and maintaining more
than one network at a time, C&W said.
C&W's service will target multinational corporations as well as
medium to large-sized businesses, it said.
Services offered to end users will include network-based IP-VPN,
IP-LAN and IP-PBX, the company said. C&W will launch IP-VPN QoS
(Quality of Service) in the US in the second quarter and in Europe
and Japan later in 2002, C&W said.
As part of the agreement, C&W will use Cisco equipment and
technology to launch IP-VPNs using Multiprotocol Label Switching
(MPLS) technology, the company said. The Cisco technology used will
include Cisco 12000 and 10000 Series Internet Routers, Cisco 7500,
7200 and 3600 Series Routers and Catalyst 6500 Routers, C&W
said.
