Users have welcomed the launch of IBM's pSeries 660 M1 server, the
first of the company's mid-range Unix machines to offer a capacity
upgrade on demand feature.
The new feature offers greater flexibility. The p660 runs on the
AIX 5L operating system, so users can use a pay-as-you-go
configuration.
Stephen Way, mid-range director of the Common UK user group, said,
"Upgrade on demand is a useful feature. It lets you increase the
capacity of the machine if you run into problems." The facility
will be particularly useful for companies using their pSeries for
Web serving, he added.
