The Professional Contractors Group (PCG) and its founder, Andy
White, were nominated recently for four national awards in the New
Statesman's New Media awards for innovative communication using new
technology.
The PCG and White received a 'special mention' in the elected
representative section, and were nominated in advocacy, on-line
communities and overall merit. The PCG was formed in March 1999 in
response to the Government's IR35 proposals and has since evolved
into a 10,000 member strong, web-based organisation, which
represents independent contractors on a range of issues. As well as
launching the PCG, White recently created the contractor news site,
Shout99.
Commenting on the nominations, he says, "The power of the web
allowed PCG to grow and operate so efficiently in such a short
period of time. It provided the means whereby individuals could
become part of a community and act with greater impact through
their combined strength. And it has shown the future for lobbying
and campaigning so that every voice can be heard."
Cabinet office minister, Dr Mo Mowlam presented the awards, and
the judges included the Government's e-envoy, Alex Allen.
